PTFE gaskets

Our PTFE gaskets provide outstanding chemical resistance for duties where hygiene and non‑contamination are essential. Compliant to EU and US FDA regulations for food and pharmaceutical as well as being validated for use in hydrogen service.

Fluolion modified PTFE gasket products provide outstanding chemical resistance for duties where hygiene and non-contamination are essential. This easy to install compressed gasket has exceptional mechanical strength and a high resistance to blow-out failure, making it particularly suited to use with acids.

A complex thermo-mechanical stretching process changes the conventional monoaxial structure of expanded PTFE into a highly fibrillated multi-directional fibre structure which results in:

  • Outstanding chemical resistance
  • Non-corrosive, non-wetting, non-contaminating and odourless
  • Improved performance over conventional PTFE popular applications

This structure of modified PTFE provides better sealing at higher pressure/temperature combinations than is possible with conventional PTFE gaskets. Both at room temperature and at elevated operating temperatures, creep is substantially reduced. However, all the positive qualities of expanded PTFE - like excellent malleability which compensates for damage and irregularities on the sealing area, as well as the unsurpassed chemical and thermal resistance of PTFE - remain unchanged. Fluolion restructured PTFE sheet materials maintain the same high levels of fibrillation to overcome the creep relaxation and cold flow problems experienced with standard PTFE sheet but introduce the added benefits of a range of filler materials.

Due to the outstanding dimensional stability under thermal stress the Fluolion PTFE range is used in:

  • Petrochemicals
  • Food and beverage
  • Acids and alkalines
  • Hydrogen service (Fluolion 200 and 900)

Fluolion chemical compatibility guide

This chemical compatibility document is issued as a guide only. All media are taken to be at ambient (‘room’) temperature other than molten alkali metals, which are at their respective melting points.

We always advise contacting James Walker sales or technical personnel to discuss details of material choice for gaskets and this is essential where chemical media in this guide have been flagged amber or red.

PFAS

Whilst a decision on the proposed PFAS regulation, and the likely timeline for implementation, are still being considered by the ECHA, James Walker is proactively looking at, and qualifying, alternative materials and working with its suppliers to ensure sealing materials are available that will offer the required levels of performance and be compliant with any proposed regulations.
