Name: Sanya Chhugani
Role: Graduate Product Manager

What made you apply to James Walker?
The rotational aspect of the graduate scheme was very appealing, as I wanted to gain as much experience as possible in the first few years of my career. Furthermore, James Walkers’ brand values stood out to me from the rest, as they put a true emphasis on its people.

What was your first placement?
My first placement was in the Cockermouth, in the Materials Engineering team. In this role, through hands-on experience, I gained a deep understanding of one of the core elements that make James Walker’s products exceptional: their materials. Additionally, I enhanced my project management skills by overseeing the partnership with Warwick University, addressing critical industry challenges such as PFAS. Lastly, I collaborated with the technical services team on cost-reduction initiatives for products in the wind industry.

The scheme is extremely flexible, allowing you to pave your own way into the company. This year, I’ve taken a step back from the Technical team, and am currently working in Product Management. I am really enjoying the role so far, and have felt like I’ve been able to make meaningful contributions in a short space of time.

Most enjoyable part of your job?
Getting to interact with colleagues from around the world has definitely been a highlight. With some having years and years of experience in the industry under their belt, spending time with people who truly know their craft makes for interesting and varied days.

What are your hobbies outside of work?
I enjoy spending time outdoors and with friends. Getting to live in the Lake District for a year was incredible, and definitely gave me a lot of opportunities to tick things off my bucket list!
