We offer a competitive starting salary, group pension scheme and many benefits. Founded in 1882, James Walker is an international, privately owned, engineering group with circa 1900 employees. Headquartered in the UK with operations around the globe, we work on mission critical sealing applications in partnership with blue chip engineering customers. Our manufacturing centres of excellence do tend to be in rural locations and are most suited to those who enjoy the great outdoors. We expect at least one placement to be based outside of the UK. Roles start in September through to November.

Participants benefit from three 10-14 month placements within different James Walker companies. Subject to Covid-19 and visas we expect at least one placement to be based outside of the UK. Typical responsibilities include working on material or product development, developing a business case, project management, design, prototyping and validation, production engineering (automation and control), through to being an applications engineer in a sales company dealing with customers. Every graduate has a say in their placements.

We traditionally offer both a dedicated engineering specialism career path and an operational management career path. Graduates who want to pursue operational management can take responsibility for business change projects within the company. Those who want to specialise can be developed to be our future engineering experts.

In 2022 we are commencing two new graduate programmes; one for STEM students to develop a Finance career path supported with Chartership, and one for STEM students to follow a Manufacturing & Supply Chain career path.
